History

The teaching of history at Our Lady of Lourdes aims to help our children develop a sense of identity and to introduce them to what is involved in understanding and interpreting the past. In the Foundation Stage we aim to promote a link to history through providing effective learning in the broader area of knowledge and understanding of the world. During the early primary years we aim to provide our pupils with the opportunities to develop an awareness of the past and the ways in which it is different from the present. In the later primary years we aim to provide our pupils with the opportunities to be taught about important episodes and developments from Roman in Britain’s past to present times, about ancient civilizations and the history of other parts of the world. As they study the past we hope our pupil’s will learn to appreciate the human achievements and aspirations which have shaped the present. It will help them to make sense of the world they live in.
