a    Help

20th November 2009
Yesterday evening a special mass to pray for and celebrate the life of Ella by our school community was held at Our Lady of Lourdes. Rev. Martin Abrams and members of the Ainsdale Methodist Church also joined us. It was a colourful service with many of us dressed in pink (Ella’s favourite) and/or bright colours, which Ella would have loved. It was a very moving service in which our school choir and Year 4, Ella’s year, lead the offertory, prayers and singing. We would like to share with you the prayers composed by Year 4:

A Bidding Prayer written by 4S

Read by Hollie Cliffe

Dear Jesus,
Please look after Ella day and night.
Never let her go.
Keep her by your side.
She will always be in our hearts.

Bidding Prayer written by 4A

Read by Charlie Warrington and Bethany Iddon

Dear Jesus,
Take good care of our special friend, Ella.
She was kind, gentle and helpful.
She lit up the room with her sweet smile and brought laughter to us all.
We admire her strength and bravery and will remember her in our hearts as a shining
star and a friend forever.

Bidding Prayer written by 4O

Read by Matilda Coakley and Lucy Summers Boyce

Dear Jesus,
Help Ella’s parents, brother Sam and family through the sad times and let them know
they are always in our thoughts and prayers.
Fill their hearts with the Joy of Ella, knowing that she is a beautiful spirit in Heaven.

On Friday 6th November the funeral service of Ella Wright took place at Ainsdale Methodist Church. There was representation at this moving service from our school choir, Year 4 children, staff, parents, the parish and governors. Her friends sent goodbyes and messages for Ella, attached to pink balloons, which were released at the end of the service. Pictures drawn for Ella by our children were displayed in church and the school choir sang a selection of her favourite hymns. Ella was a fun loving, kind and courageous little girl, who for eight years bravely fought the effects of a complex immune disorder. She encouraged thousands to sign up to the bone marrow register and for us will be a lasting inspiration in the determination and courage she displayed. The Wright family have made a substantial difference to The Anthony Nolan Trust’s cause by speaking publicly about Ella and their contribution has been greatly appreciated. I know they are in all our thoughts and prayers.

I have included two readings from the service to share with you. The first poem ‘Smile’ was written for Ella by her friends: SMILE

Super, caring, friendly, helpful you …
Make each of us feel special,
In our class you are really missed,
Loving and an outstanding friend,
Ella we miss your beautiful smile.

The second poem ‘Afterglow’ is dedicated to how Ella would like to be remembered:

AFTERGLOW
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done,
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and summer days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave, when life is done.

Last week our children were introduced to the BIKE IT project, which aims to encourage them to cycle to school and generally increase their cycling skills and enjoyment. Our first major event in association with the project was our Bike It Breakfasts, which took place throughout this week for different year groups. After each breakfast in class groups, Dr. Bike checked the children’s bikes and the children received short skills sessions on the playground with Mary Kelland our Bike It Officer. All the sessions have had positive feedback from our school community and we look forward to future events.

On behalf of the Governors and staff have a lovely half term break.
Thank you for your continued support.

As you will probably be aware we had two fire alarm alerts at lunchtimes this week, luckily they were both false alarms. May I congratulate all pupils, staff and visitors, for the speedy and efficient way that the building was evacuated safely. A great big thank you as well to all parents and carers who had to respond to your child coming home in P.E kits with bags of wet uniform and how neatly turned out the children were the next day!

You will now have received a timetable of many of the clubs we will be offering for this academic year. Further information on clubs for Year 1 will follow for the Spring and Summer terms. On behalf of you all I would like to thank the staff for their commitment in offering a range of activities, as they are run on a voluntary basis (apart from Homework Club). All of the clubs are registered by Mrs. McNally our Extended Schools Manager with both the Sefton and the National Children’s University Scheme. This scheme encourages our pupil’s engagement with learning beyond the school day. The children receive credits for regularly attending clubs and those with sufficient credits can attend a graduation ceremony at Edge Hill University at the end of Year 2 and 6, which is a very enjoyable occasion for them and you from our experiences of participating in this excellent project. Thank you for your continued support.

It has been lovely to see all our children so smartly dressed and ready to start a new academic year. A very special welcome to all the children and families who have joined our school community. We look forward to working with you all throughout the coming year. The beginning of year meetings with parents (Year 1 – Year 6) will take place commencing Monday 21st September. The purpose of this meeting is to allow you to meet your child’s new teacher, discuss any issues or concerns you may have and to answer any questions you have regarding the curriculum for the coming year. This meeting supports the smooth transition into a new year group.
