Literacy

Children are taught Literacy daily according to the twelve strands of the renewed framework. The strands focus specifically on Speaking & Listening, Drama, Reading and Writing. Themes are taught in blocks to ensure the child has time to understand the taught concepts and develop their skills accordingly at their own level. Various learning styles are adapted and Literacy lessons are creative and fun! Links are made with other subjects, wherever possible, and topic books are often a record of the children’s achievements.

Children are taught to read in school by the teacher individually in the Early Years/Key Stage One and within a group in Key Stage Two. We always encourage regular reading at home. There are separate spelling lessons and handwriting sessions, outside the daily Literacy hour. We believe that Literacy encompasses all learning.

PLEASE NOTE: See the learning links pages for further reading and advice.
