NumeracyDuring Maths lessons children will be taught the seven strands of the renewed framework, including: - using and applying maths, counting and understanding number, knowing and using number facts, calculating, understanding shape, measuring and handling data. Children will practise new skills so they can apply their new knowledge in different situations. Teachers will create opportunities for children to work creatively on a range of puzzles and problems. Children are introduced to the processes of calculation through practical, oral and mental activities. Over time children learn how to use models and images, such as empty number lines, to support their methods of calculation. Informal written methods are refined and lead to efficient written methods that can be used more generally.
