Provision For Pupils With Additional Needs

Special Educational Needs

We are committed to providing equality of opportunity and high achievement for all children. Our focus is on preventative work to ensure that children’s special educational needs are identified as quickly as possible and that early action is taken to meet those needs. When children appear to have a barrier to learning and are thought to have difficulties developing skills, the class teacher together with the designated teacher of Special Educational Needs (SENCO) will provide an additional learning plan designed to support the child to overcome these difficulties.

The SAIS (Specialist Advisory Inclusion Support) may also be involved at the request of the school and on occasions other specialists may be consulted. If this action is required, parents will be informed from the outset and will be asked to support the programme of work wherever possible. The child’s progress is monitored regularly and written records are sent to the parents. Parents are asked to contribute to this review process.

At all times, the adults supporting children on individual education programmes will strive, through positive management strategies, to foster in the child good work attitudes, self-confidence and independence.
