This year, Chinese New Year started on Saturday 25th January 2020.
Each year at Our Lady of Lourdes we enjoy an amazing week of creativity, learning all about the customs and celebrations associated with the Chinese New Year. Last year we heard the legend of the willow pattern and had an art competition to draw a willow pattern plate.
This year, our art competition was to design and draw a Chinese temple. Our focus was on drawing straight lines free hand and using Chinese style patterns to decorate them.
In their Geography lessons, the children located China on a map and found out lots of facts about the country and the Chinese culture.
All of our children took part in a Chinese Dragon dance. As you can see in our photograph they had beautiful dragon and lion costumes to wear. They also used Chinese parasols that were designed and decorated by our year 6 pupils.
They have learned how to say Hello in Mandarin. “Ni hao” and enjoyed Singing the song “Gung Hey Fat Choy”, which means Happy New Year!
