Art and Design
Art and Design is a means of communication that can help children to explore, understand, share and represent their physical and human environment. Art and Design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Pupils’ understanding of Art and Design is developed through knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the work of other artists past and present and from different cultures. Through our creative curriculum Art and Design is also accessed in other subjects. The children are encouraged to express their creative ideas in a secure and appreciative environment. They are shown how to work with a range of materials and equipment including digital media, clay, modrock and textiles and are taught various techniques in areas such as printing, painting and mark marking.
