DAILY ACTIVITY – Monday 30th March 2020

English – Goldilocks and the Three Bears – Read through the story together (maybe you have a book of this at home you could share). Talk about who the characters are, where the story is set and what happens at the beginning, the middle and the end of the story.

Golidilocks-Story-Powerpoint

With homemade props, teddy bears and chairs or even the masks provided, can you act out the story with your family?

Choose a picture from the story book or PowerPoint and write two sentences about what is happening. Don’t forget to say your sentence out loud first. Looking at your targets on your recent assertive mentoring form can you work on your target when writing your sentence today? It may be letter formation or adding ‘and’ into your sentence.

Maths – Practical – Introduce capacity and volume

Monday 30th – Powerpoint

1.  Provide a range of different containers for children to explore practically using water or sand. Ask questions such as:

Show me full containers, show me empty containers, show me almost full, show me almost empty.

2. Hold a container up to the class with a given capacity. Ask children to show more than or less than using water or sand in their containers. Display and discuss the answers commenting on how size height and width of various containers alone doesn’t necessarily determine if it holds more or less. For example, a tall container might hold less than a shorter one as it might be narrower. Show children an example of this using a test tube.

See worksheet as an extra: Year 1 – ACTIVITY – Capacity

Children will draw water lines on the glasses to match the descriptions given of each capacity.

Afternoon activities – DT – Food Tech- Please could you make, bake or cook a snack or one of your daily meals together. Maybe a nice bowl of porridge and link this to this morning’s story of Goldilocks! Make sure you talk about food hygiene, preparation and the ingredients you use and if you need to measure anything out encourage the children to do this too. Enjoy!

Spring Term - Over the Dunes

In English, we have been reading ‘Queen Victoria’s Bathing Machine’. This story links with our History topic of the Victorians.

We have been designing and also building our own bathing machines in school.

We have also been comparing Victorian toys and toys we have now! It was lots of fun playing with the Victorian toys in our History lessons.

This term we are learning about plants. We have been on a tree hunt on our school grounds and we can now recognise deciduous and evergreen trees!

Over half term, children also completed activities about our Science topic – Plants. Zara and her mum got very creative with recycled materials to create some wonderful flowers!

Patrick also shared some photographs of a visit to his Nan’s house where he saw a wonderful bunch of flowers! He also labelled the parts of a plant, good work Patrick!
