Welcome to Year 2

Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st July Home School Tasks

This week we are getting ready for the Summer Holidays and preparing ourselves to start Year 3 next year.

Our activities will be a little bit different this week and we will finish with a little end of Year quiz on Tuesday.

Below you will find a selection of activities that you can choose to complete as and when you like over the next two days. You do not need to do all the activities just pick the ones you want to do.

Don’t forget to post anything you do onto the messages page on Dojo.

Baking- Use the skills you have learnt this year in following instructions and measuring to bake or make a delicious snack.

Craft- Create something for a friend. You could make:

  • A friendship bracelet- use 3 pieces of coloured wool, plait them together and tie a knot in the end to form a bracelet.
  • Create a colourful bookmark, use the template attached or create your own.
  • A friendship card- write a thank you card for a friend and say what you like doing with them e.g. I love playing football with you.
  • A certificate- You could make a certificate for a friend to say something they are really good at.

Writing- Have a look at these lovely task to help you think about what you have enjoyed this year and what you are looking forward to next year:

  • Complete the ‘I am an amazing person’ sheet.
  • Write a postcard to your new teacher telling them what you are looking forward to next year.
  • Complete the ‘Memories from this Year’ Sheet.
  • Complete the ‘Spreading my wings’ from Year 2 to Year 3 booklet.

We would like to finish by saying what a wonderful Year group you are. We have truly enjoyed our time with you and although it was only short we had great fun teaching you. We will miss you all so much and wish you the best for your journey into Year 3. Remember we are always here for you so make sure you give us a little wave if you see us around school or on the playground.

 English – Today we will be writing a comic strip from The Lion King. Use the one attached to write in some speech and thought bubble for the characters. Underneath each photo write a sentence to explain what is happening. If you want you may wish to create your own comic strip, drawing your own pictures.

Afternoon activities Computing

Today I would like you to continue to make your Powerpoint. Please could you pick another African animal and  continue to create your Powerpoint presentation.. Please could you work on the following skills

  • Adding a slide
  • Inserting a picture to a slide
  • Inserting text using a text box
  • Alter the font style, colour of the font and the size.
  • If you are feeling brave adding animation to your slides using the animation tab at the top of the screen.

We can’t wait to see your wonderful PowerPoints.

 

Family Time– Decide as a family what you would like to do for the rest of the afternoon. Play a game, bake, go for a walk or have a rest and watch a film.

 English – Today we will focus on exclamations, remember these are used when someone is surprised. Use the PowerPoint to remind yourself of these sentence types. Then use the sheet to write as many exclamation sentences as you can e.g. What a beautiful day it is!

 English – Today we will be looking at statements. Remember a statement is a sentence that gives information. Use the Powerpoint from yesterday if you need to refresh your memory of this.

Today we are going to do some thinking about the things God has created. Watch the video about the creation story.

Now on a piece of paper, can you draw the things that mean the most to you and that bring you the most joy. Can you pass the piece of paper to another member of your family and ask them to draw what creation brings them the most joy. You can pass this as many times as you like. Once you have finished drawing, all look at the picture and discuss what God created and how our world is one of God’s treasures.

English – Today you are going to use your work from yesterday to write a setting description. Use your noun phrases to create full sentences. E.g. Rafiki was strolling through the yellow, crunchy grass. He was searching for some cold, blue water so he could cool down. The bright, yellow sun was shining behind him. White, fluffy clouds were floating in the pretty sky.

English – Today you are going to use your work from yesterday. Can you use your adjectives and noun phrases and write a short character descption. This needs to be a few full sentences to tell the reader what your character looks like and what their personality is like.

E.g. Rafiki is a small, grey monkey with a long, thin tail. He likes to help all the other animals in Africa and is very wise. He carries a big, wooden stick which he uses to help him walk and sometimes fight other animals. Rafiki is a kind and caring monkey who is always laughing.

English – Over the next few days we will be looking at using adjectives and noun phrases in our writing. We will be writing a short character description followed by a setting description.

Today can you draw a picture of your favourite character from The Lion King and write adjectives and noun phrases around your character to describe them. E.g. Soft, grey fur. Small, black eyes. Please send any photos to the ClassDojo page. Keep your work safe you’ll need it tomorrow.

This Term

We have been creating African landscape paintings using pastels and paint. This linked to our Tinga Tinga Tale topic. We had great fun!

The Great Fire of London
